Salisbury Rotary and Salisbury Zarraffa's work for local children

The Rotary Club of Salisbury is working closely with the franchisee of Salisbury Zarraffa's Coffee to provide "friendship seats" for local schools.

 

Zarraffa's staff will be raising money by participating in the Bridge to Brisbane fun run. The run will cover 10km from the Gateway Bridge to Brisbane CBD on August 28th. It is hoped that the efforts of the staff will raise $1000 for four seats at local primary schools.

 

Store franchisee Sharon Apap said "It is hoped that children will approach the seat and invite whoever is sitting on it to play with them, or simply check if they are OK".

 

The friendship seats is a project of the Rotary Club of Salisbury. Club President Johnno Chen explains that the seats are brightly coloured with most of the decorating being completed by the school children. If a child is lonely, feeling isolated or a little upset he or she can sit on the seat and the other children will treat them in a friendly and compassionate manner.

 

The seats are assembled and primed ready for final decoration by the members of the Rotary Club of Salisbury as a community service project.

 

School staff are excited by and supportive of the project, saying it will be a benefit to those children feeling left out or isolated.
