Meeting Last Week: Zoom Meeting - joint meeting with the Rotary Club of Archerfield

Myles welcomed Eric, President Elect of the Rotary Club of Archerfield whom he met at President Elect Training. Myles said the highlight of the training was the group sessions and meeting Eric and Arch, President Elect of the Rotary Club of Carindale. Eric said it was a great learning opportunity. His club has 18 members and Eric has only been in Rotary for 2 years. The Cluster has set up a What's Up Group and will work and help each other and plan combined events.

Warren advised that with the $2,000 Federal Government Volunteers Grant we will be able to purchase a new laptop and licence.

A community kitchen built by the Rotary Club of Nuevo Santander at a local school is ensuring hundreds of children have meals in low-income neighborhoods of Nuevo Laredo, a city on the U.S. border. “Most of the houses in this area do not have running water or electricity,” says Club President Jorge Tello. The club launched the $150,000 project in 2018, and the kitchen at the Comedor Santa María school began operating in August 2020; meals were first served to-go due to the COVID-19 pandemic before the dining room opened in May 2021. “Operation costs for providing breakfast and lunch for 230 children every day is $9,300 a month,” Tello says. The funds are donated by businesses and individuals. Club members supervise the operation, and Rotarians are providing solar panels to the facility.

Youth Service Month

May is Youth Service Month | Rotary District 7080

May is designated as Rotary’s Youth Service month and gives us an opportunity to take a look at what we are doing in this area of service. We all recognise that today’s youth are tomorrow’s future, and we believe in developing our next generation of leaders as a contribution to our future. We have a myriad of programs that help younger leaders build leadership skills, expand education, and learn the value of service. May provides an opportunity for our incoming club Youth Directors to review their club’s plans to be involved in this important area of service.
