President Allan's Message

UNITE FOR GOOD

The Heart of Rotary

The heart of Rotary is our dedicated members, who share the ideals of service, friendship, diversity, integrity, and leadership.

Rotary clubs bring together people across generations who wish to create lasting change in the world, in their communities, and in themselves. Rotary and Rotaract members around the world strengthen their connections to friends and neighbors taking action through service. From big cities to rural villages, Rotary is changing communities like yours.

Club benefits

Your club connection gives you the chance to develop skills like public speaking, project management, and event planning. You’ll meet interesting people from your community and around the world. And you’ll tackle local and international issues that are important to you and your fellow club members.

Some clubs conduct all or part of their meetings online, for members who have a busy schedule, limited mobility, or live in an area without an established Rotary or Rotaract club. Online clubs, sometimes known as e-clubs, meet regularly, carry out service projects, support The Rotary Foundation, and socialize, like any other Rotary or Rotaract club, without the cost that often comes with meeting in person.

Membership is the lifeline for our Club's survival. The very survival of the Rotary Club of Salisbury is new members.

Have you been thinking membership in the past few weeks?

How will you contribute to our membership growth in the next few months?

In 2025-2026, let's strive to

Unite for good for Rotary,
Unite for good for our Club
and
Unite for good for our Community.

Allan James
President
Rotary Club of Salisbury

At our September 9th meeting we had a wonderful opportunity to celebrate with two of our members.
Dudley and Trish Schmidtchen recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary and Phil Feros' birthday. As a celebration of both milestones, we had CAKE.

We were also treated to two guest speakers.
Ian Drinkwater from the Salisbury Community Sports Club gave us a brief history of the Bowls Club from its origin as the Evans Deakin Bowls Club to the re-conception as a Community Hub. In a move to rebuild the club, the management will be mounting move functions to attract the younger families moving into the area.
The Club is continuing hosting Maggies Markets each first Sunday of the month, a Melbourne Cup lunch on November 4th and a 'Welcome to Christmas' on December 7th.

Robyn Frandsen is the Charter President of the Moorooka PROBUS Club. She reminded us that the Club was chartered 12 months ago and will be celebrating the occasion on September 19. The Club currently has 20 members, of which there are 2 men. The Club has a number of social activities including Mahjong and Arts & Craft groups and regular movie outings.
The Club meets at the Moorooka Community Hall with regular guest speakers. The Club is working to grow its membership to 40 members by the end of next year.

On the other meeting/s we will either self cater or simply not have meal. This may also give us a chance to get through some more business.

See you in Taiwan

It’s Taipei time! Work is well underway to bring you a world-class event with the prestigious speakers and special surprises that make attending the Rotary International Convention a must-do for every member — at least once. You might find you keep returning like so many convention regulars.

Rotary leaders met Taiwan’s president to secure personal support for the event. Your Rotary friends are planning exceptional experiences on the mountainous island and in the capital city known for vibrant night markets and ancient temples among skyscrapers.

Members describe the positive convention vibe: You see all smiling faces and stop to greet someone, reading each other’s name badge to find out home countries. “And that’s where the conversation starts,” says Ben Heinlein, of the Rotary Club of Cranberry Township Sunrise, Pennsylvania. Those connections kindle untold numbers of project partnerships and lifelong friendships.

RI leaders have a convention challenge for you to support Rotary’s growth: Simply attend! You’ll help bring more attention to Rotary throughout Asia, which can draw new members. For tourism, Taiwan has more diverse options on one island than many larger destinations, with its heritage on display in architecture and the National Palace Museum’s artifacts. Enjoy nearby mountain trails and a food culture where even the simplest meal is an occasion to enjoy time with friends, over beef noodle soup, craft cocktails, or an oyster omelet.

At the RI leaders’ visit, President Lai Ching-te discussed Taiwan’s support of a peaceful world, a bond shared with Rotary. The convention exemplifies Rotary’s vision for peace, and the RI global family gathering in Taipei 13-17 June is your chance to feel the full force of Rotary’s strength.

Larry A. Lunsford confirmed as the 2027-28 Rotary International president

EVANSTON, Ill., USA (Sept. 15, 2025) — Larry A. Lunsford, member of the Rotary Club of Kansas City-Plaza, Mo., was today confirmed as president-nominee of Rotary International – the association of the membership service organization’s 45,000 clubs worldwide – and will begin his one-year term on July 1, 2027.

Lunsford, a member of Rotary since 1991, is committed to inspiring Rotary’s 1.2 million members across continents and cultures to deliver real, long-term solutions to the world’s most persistent issues, while building professional and leadership skills through meaningful connections.

From fighting disease to supporting education – Rotary members work toward building the optimal conditions for more peaceful and resilient societies. “Our greatest strength lies in our ability to unite people of all cultures and generations through a shared commitment to doing good,” said Lunsford. “We exist without borders and boundaries, and we see each other as part of our collective Rotary family. I am inspired by our members’ relentless belief that peace is possible and will encourage them to continue to be the torchbearers of hope. Our world needs this today, more than ever.”
