President Ali's Message

CREATE HOPE IN THE WORLD

Hi All

Firstly, I would like to say Thank You to Debbie James for doing an excellent job with the bulletin since becoming the bulletin editor.  You are doing a great job.

As you are all aware, I have been on my holidays so have missed a couple of meetings.  Both Grant and I had a great time on our holiday in Thailand.  We are both back to reality and the daily grind!

Whilst I was away on the 19th April, it was the birthday of Paul Harris, the founder of Rotary International.  He had a vision and formed an organization with local professionals where they could come together, share ideas and enjoy fellowship.  Today Rotary International has 1.4 million members from around the world all working towards the same goal where “together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change across the globe, in our communities and in ourselves” (Rotary International Vision Statement 2024).  As the new Rotary year is fast approaching, I would like to ask you to take a moment to reflect on your Rotary journey, our club and how we can best move the club forward together for the remainder of this and the 2024-25 year.

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered for the St David’s Neighbourhood Centre Autumn Fest On 11th May.  The Rotary Club of Sunnybank will be assisting and with their help, we have enough volunteers to be able to assist with the BBQ once again.

This week’s meeting is at Wellers Hill and will be catered.  Please can you ensure that you have registered so the catering numbers are correct and there is enough food for all who attend.  We have guest speaker Arch Downie who is coming to talk to us about Rotary Youth Transition Seminar (RYTS) which is a program that empowers school graduates for life.

Hope to see you there 😊

Ali

Continuing the legacy of our founder, the Paul Harris Fellow program recognizes individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of US$1,000 to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.

The honor was established in 1957 to show appreciation for contributions that support our Annual Fund, PolioPlus, or an approved Foundation grant.

Paul Harris Society gifts have helped provide programs such as:

  • Vocational training for teachers establishing an early childhood education center in South Africa
  • Water filters, toilets, and hygiene training to prevent fluorosis, diarrhea, and other diseases in India
  • A scholarship for a medical professional in Italy to research treatments that minimize mortality rates among premature babies
  • Peace-building seminars for 200 teachers and 1,300 students in Uganda
  • Treated mosquito nets and medical services that prevent malaria in Mali.
